This course will focus the application of the Interpersonal Communication Process as it applies to the veterinary profession, with the intent to enhance the care of companion animals belonging to communities of diverse backgrounds, improving the Human-Animal Bond and Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship. This presentation highlights the Interpersonal Process as outlined by UCSF and the CDC in 1999. Examples will be provided, and group discussion will allow the participants to find authentic ways to apply these concepts to everyday veterinary clinical practice. This presentation is not a definitive guide to best communication practices but rather encourages the participants to be conscious in their daily interactions with clients with a focus on personalized engagement with clients to drive improved patient outcomes, client experiences and veterinary professional job satisfaction.
