About the Event

Torigen and Hills Pet Nutrition are partnering with us to provide a great Continuing Education Event on Veterinary Oncology:  When Referral is not an Option and Nutritional Support for Pets with Cancer.  We will learn  how cancer and its treatment increases the risk for malnutrition and the important components and benefits of a food specially formulated for pets with cancer. Then the seminar will guide learners through having a proactive nutrition discussion with pet owners at cancer diagnosis.

Ashley Kalinauskas is the Founder and CEO of Torigen Pharmaceuticals—a startup that resulted from her graduate thesis project at the University of Notre Dame. Torigen and its first personalized cancer vaccine, VetiVax, are based upon the research of former University of Notre Dame professor Dr. Mark Suckow.

Torigen focuses on providing veterinary immunotherapies for companion animals with cancer and autoimmune diseases. Ashley has grown Torigen from the lab benches at Notre Dame to a successful startup with over 30 employees headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut. She has been named to Forbes 30 under 30 in Science, Connecticut Entrepreneur of the Year, and a Women of Innovation.

Dr. Anna Biesbrock is a small animal general practitioner and is currently a regional consulting veterinarian for Hill’s Pet Nutrition based out of Los Angeles. She completed her veterinary training at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine with a focus on public health and research. Prior to her veterinary training she completed her Master’s degree at the University of Texas at Tyler, where she studied biology with a focus in molecular biology, utilizing insect cell culture to help develop a biopesticide for an agriculturally important invasive insect species. Her interests include preventative medicine, feline medicine, nutrition, end of life care, and education. When she is not practicing, she enjoys spending time with her two feline companions, tending to her garden, and being near the ocean whenever possible.
